May 15, 2017 - Fall 2017 Registration is now OPEN
Welcome to 2017 Fall Soccer registration. This is a town-based recreational league for boys and girls in grades K-8 who reside in or attend school in Braintree. Minimum age required is age 5 as of 8/31/2017. The goal of the league is to promote the game of Soccer and to allow everyone to enjoy the game and have fun.
The league is organized into boys and girls divisions by grade. This allows the players to be grouped with others of similar skill level and size, insuring fairness of play. The divisions are B-K (Boys Kindergarten, etc.), G-K, B-1, G-1, B-2, G-2, B-3, G-3, B-4, G-4, B-5/6, G-5/6, B-7/8 and G-7/8.
The format for the Kindergarten and 1st Grade Divisions is Micro Soccer. This is played on a small field with only 4 players per side, allowing all players an opportunity to touch the ball as much as possible. Games are fast moving and free flowing.
The 2nd, 3rd and 4th Grade Divisions play on medium sized fields with small goals. Grade 2 is a 5 player format. Grades 3 and 4 are 7 player format. At this level traditional soccer rules are applied, positional play becomes important and boundaries are enforced.
The 5/6 and 7/8 grade Divisions play on full sized regulation fields with 11 players per side. Some of these games even occur at night. This is the big leagues, with a draft, standings and play-offs.
Play begins on the first Saturday in September for all grades. The season ends at the end of October / beginning of November for Divisions K-4, and early- to mid-November for Divisions with play-offs.
All games are played on Saturday at either East Middle School or Thayer Academy South Athletic Complex (with the exception of evening games at Braintree High School).
A coach will contact you in late August with information regarding your team and schedule.
Practices are scheduled at the coaches discretion.

Each player has been assigned a training hour for these training sessions. Unfortunately we cannot entertain requests for players to attend an alternative training sessions. The reason for this is that the gym space is rather confined. We do our best to keep the player to instructor ratio at a number that is conducive to the enjoyment of all the children in the gym at the time
February 11, 2017 - Paul Machado
It is with extreme sadness that we inform you of the death of Paul Machado, a great friend of Braintree Youth Soccer, on February 11, 2017. You are receiving this email because you participated in BYS sometime in the last 10 years. Therefore, whether you know it or not, your life was touched by Paul Machado.
Paul started in Braintree Youth Soccer back in 2000 as a Coach and a Director and served on the BYS Executive Board as the Secretary/Clerk since then, long after his son and daughters aged out of the program. If you were a coach then you knew Paul as the "CORI Guy." Paul was a fixture at East every Saturday, arriving at 6am to set up and staying until late in the day for breakdown. He was a mentor and friend to virtually every BYS board member this decade. His loss will be felt throughout Braintree as Paul was a dedicated volunteer for Baseball, Softball, the Community Preservation Committee, the Braintree Recreation Advisory Committee and more.
Visiting hours will be held at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Thursday, February 16th from 4-8 pm. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Friday, February 17th at 10:00 am to be followed by a Funeral Mass in the Church of St. Thomas More at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
There is a scholarship fund established at Braintree High School in Paul's memory. The family would appreciate donations be sent to the Paul D. Machado Scholarship Fund, c/o Braintree Cooperative Bank, 1010 Washington Street, Braintree, MA 02184 in lieu of flowers.
